As mentioned in our most recent post, we just finished a really unique wine rack for a realtor in the DC area. We know that the future homeowner of the newly renovated house is going to love their custom built-in! Here is how it looked after installation!
We also wanted to take the time to show off our floating shelves! MAD Realty often asks us for custom floating shelves for the kitchens in the homes they restore. We think this design brings a really open and airy element to the Washington homes they are going into while also keeping history alive in the kitchen! The wood is cleaned of its sawmill markings and lath marks but retails the old square cut nails we found in them from their previous life in Washington and Baltimore row homes! The wood is over 150 years old and is old growth pine so it also retains extremely rich grain details. We use raw steel brackets from a local metal fabricator to hold up the shelves and all the beautiful kitchen ware that is displayed on them! We think this gives it a very industrial modern look while also bringing the history of the wood into the heart of the home. Check out some of the pieces we made for 725 Emerson Street NW, including these beautiful floating shelves!
